The Snoqualmie Valley is becoming a favorite go to spot for many with it’s popular hiking and biking trails and beautiful surrounding area. But did you know the valley is becoming popular for their amazing, breweries, wineries, and restaurants as well? Our guest today, local Snoqualmie resident, Chef Kristen Schumacher (Chef Schu) turned her passion for cooking, and teaching into a dream come true, opening her own restaurant, and cooking workshop The Heirloom Cookshop, in the heart of downtown Snoqualmie.
Surrounding herself with a team of like-minded passionate foodies, The Heirloom Cookshop offers fresh, weekly, farm-to-table menus, dinners on Thursday and Friday evenings, brunch on Saturdays and Sundays, cooking classes, catering, special events, and more! Featuring local, seasonal food and drink, and is known as a collaborative ‘foodie hub’, she brings food artisans, chefs, and farmers together to celebrate the best that the Pacific Northwest has to offer.
As a chef for over 20 years, for high-end Seattle restaurants, and personal chef to celebrities Kristen wanted a solution to be closer to raising her two young girls. What started as a vision of offering some grab-and-go items, and teaching cooking classes turned into transforming Snoqualmie’s 1923 historic State Bank building into a quaint gathering place, and customers lined up out the door on weekends for brunch.
Summer months, starting in June through the end of September, Kristen hosts the Green Market in her parking lot, every Friday afternoon from 3pm until 7pm. Shop local artists, growers and makers, relax in their new beer garden, listen to live music, and check out their new kids’ program, Kale Yeah! Check out this years end of the season event, celebrating Octoberfest, Friday September 27th from 5:00 – 8:00 – tickets can be purchased on her website, or at the door and includes live music, craft brew, cider & wine, great German food, dancing, and local vendors. December 7th is a full day of shopping local vendors, fire pit and special holiday menu from 9:30 – 6:00.
Kristen’s true passion is combining her love of cooking with teaching others. Kristen’s talented guest chefs/teachers teach classes emphasizing seasonal fresh foods & beverages from the Pacific Northwest. Her chefs will show you culinary techniques from cooking meats and seafood, creative vegetable cookery to making your own corn tortillas.
